What is an everything shower for guys?
It’s all over our socials at the moment so you’re probably seeing the same men’s grooming and body care footage. So what is an everything shower for boys?
The everything shower is a cleansing and hygiene ritual that involves a decent and - let’s been honest - very thorough shower covering the whole body.
Referred to as the whole-body cleanse here at James + Jake, an everything shower involves washing from head to toe and everything in between. In contrast to a quick morning freshen up or a post-run hop into the shower to cool off or remove sweat, the everything shower takes a little more time and attention, particularly in the areas down below. It’s the time for good cleansing, but also for those occasional maintenance tasks, such as fingernails and a foot scrub.
Why is the everything shower a thing?
An everything shower is nothing new. It involves giving your hair, face, torso, legs, feet a good clean and is a basic, daily hygiene practice for guys who want to stay detoxified, healthy and feeling fresh. But it has become widely talked about lately due to the rise of social videos and GRWM footage on Instagram and TikTok where the boys discuss daily skincare and body care routines. Although washing everything in the shower is advisable on a regular, if not daily, basis, the concept of the everything shower takes into account a slower, more considered, enjoyable approach to showering. It’s an important form of self care and hygiene that usually takes a little longer and uses a range of different products, such as shampoo and conditioner, face cleanser, shower gel and/or soaps. It’s become a ‘thing’ largely since the rise of social or viral videos showing men and their everything shower routines.
How long should an everything shower take?
That depends on how thorough you want to be with your cleansing routine and whether or not you have the time (and patience) to take it slow. Your everything shower can be as long or as short as you need it to be. As long as you’ve checked off the routine above (hair, face, body etc), then your everything shower can be as quick as you like. Similar to taking a long relaxing bath, some people enjoy the process of cleansing and personal grooming in the shower. And they may take extra time for nail clipping, nose trimming or a more complicated skincare routine, including a scrub, for example. Basically, take as long as you like in your ‘everything shower’.
What happens in an everything shower?
In your everything shower, all body parts, from your hair to your toes, gets a good wash. Although it can be tailored to your own personal preference, the everything shower will often include shampooing and conditioning your hair (if needed), face and body wash and thoruoughly cleaning body parts. Other maintenance and grooming tasks like clipping your nails or exfoliating your skin can be done as well. Basically everywhere on your body that you feel needs cleansing, so you’ll finish feeling fresh and smelling great.
