Everything you need to know about the James + Jake face wash
It’s the most important step in any man’s skincare routine, so it was only a matter of time before we launched a men’s face wash. What took us so long? To be honest we were just trying to get it right. You’ve probably already noticed there are plenty of face washes on the market for you to choose from, which meant this version had to offer something special.
We knew ours had to be created for a typical James + Jake customer - keen to look good and look after the health of his skin without spending too much time or fuss doing it. The James + Jake face wash had to be powerful enough to take on some serious cleansing (standing up to sweat from your workout or city smog from your commute) but also gentle enough to be used every day.
During the formulation phase of development, we experimented with a number of different ingredients and plant-based oils to get the perfect balance between skin cleanliness and skin health. We tried a wide range of options, from pomegranate to charcoal cleansers before selecting the very best purifying ingredients and finalising the current formula. During our test phase, a cream base was by far the most effective at detoxifying while simultaneously conditioning the skin. It provided a smoother, softer finish on the skin’s surface thanks to the addition of some light oils, which helped to hydrate the face. And the addition of a small dose of coconut oil helped to lock in moisture, providing a barrier to free radicals that aided in hours more hydration throughout the day or evening.
We tried a number of different botanicals and discovered black cumin seed oil helped the skin to retain water and moisture after washing, which gives you that amazing healthy vibrancy, as well as having anti-inflammatory properties. The result is a thoroughly cleansing and refreshing face wash that contains soothing natural ingredients and zero synthetic fragrance. When it came to choosing the name, well, it just had to be ‘Major’. In the early stages of our product development brief, we made it clear that our first face wash had to be used in perfect harmony with the best-selling product in our range, the Major Hydrator men’s moisturiser. Together, these two products offer clean, hydrated, conditioned skin.
Although the Major Cleanser can be used any time of day, you might notice we’ve suggested it’s perfect for use at the end of the day on the back of the packaging. That’s because it contains an abundance of antioxidants, including Sunflower Seed Oil, Blackcurrant Oil and Apricot Oil, all of which contain healing properties for skin exposed to the elements. Whenever you choose to use the James + Jake face wash, ultimately we created the best possible all-rounder, daily cleanser we could.
