A dozen uses for a face mist

A face mist is quickly becoming a valuable part of the skincare repertoire for many a guy, and it’s for good reason. Originally formulated to be more coolant than treatment, today there are not only plenty available on the market from most major brands, but they delivery a range of benefits from moisturising to mindfulness. Here are 12 reasons you should select one on your next skincare shopping spree.

Instant hydration
If your skin is dehydrated, looking dull or dry, you could deliver immediate relief with a hydrating face spray. A spray that contains oils, such as sunflower seed, will help your skin to absorb the moisture and look healthier. And it’s best to avoid anything heavily fragranced with perfume.

Flight refreshment
The air in a plane cabin can take its toll on your skin, no matter how long you are flying for. A facial mist is especially refreshing and hydrating for your skin during a long haul trip, but you can use one at any time for a mid-flight pick-me-up. Try using one after waking up on the red eye right before landing - you’ll feel more awake and your skin will thank you.

Cool down
Post exercise or pool time refreshment, a face mist can help you to chill, instantly. Pack one in your bag the next time you head to the gym and see how much it can help with your cool down after the shower.

Moisture lock in
Although it takes a powerful blend of moisturising ingredients to ensure you can get and hold onto the moisture you need from a face mist, it can be done. Look for humectants on the packaging, such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which help to absorb moisture and lock it in your skin longer. For best results, add other steps into your skincare routine such as a moisturiser or eye cream to give you the effects you want.

Multi-step skincare
If you’re already a skincare aficionado you’ll know that taking care of your skin usually requires more than a bar of soap (although we do love a soap right now) and a splash of water. A multi-step approach to your routine should include a cleanser, exfoliant, moisturiser as a minimum. Read our article on product layering here. If you haven’t already, you can add a mist to the daily routine and the effects can be phenomenal. After your moisturiser and eye cream, spray your face with a hydrating mist to lock in the moisture and keep the effects of your products lasting longer. Again, humectants help, so look for glycerin or hyaluronic acid. And we recommend waiting a few minutes before the other products have absorbed into the skin before spraying.

What a treatment
Treating specific skin concerns or complaints you might have is something personal to you and can be addressed by finding the most suitable product from the best face mists for men. With so many on the market, it’s difficult to recommend the best solution for your skin type, but they are vital products to carry or keep on the bathroom shelf to relieve issues such as dryness, redness, rosacea or even oily skin. Understand which skin type or problem you have and find a mist that helps. If you’re looking for something that’s an all-round ‘good guy’ product to deliver a dose of healthy or nourishing ingredients, then keep an eye out for vitamins such as tocopherol (vitamin E) or natural fruit based oils, which leave the skin with a healthy glow. The acai berry is apparently great for soothing the skin and aiding an even skin tone.

Way to unwind
We all have those days when we just need a moment of calm and a face mist can help you get there. Keep one to hand for a refreshing lift during your most stressful moments. A light fragrance, possibly using natural lavender or geranium, should help bring you back to your most relaxed, centred self.

Speedy spritz
It’s not always possible to follow a complete, five-step skincare routine when time is of the essence. Maybe you overslept, maybe you’re travelling light, or maybe you are just heading out for the evening after moisturising earlier in the day. A quick spritz of a facial mist is a speedy solution if you only need a quick hit of hydration.

Sea spray
Although we usually recommend sea salt, sand and sun in small doses for a natural way to condition your skin, it can get a little irritating at times. Take a neutral, chemical-free facial mist to the beach or pool with you to help rinse of any excess sand or unwanted chlorine from your face. Don’t forget to re-apply your sunscreen and avoid any citrus-based essential oils as they don’t do the skin any good in the sun.

Day to night prep
It’s not always necessary to repeat an entire skincare routine in the evening if you’re heading out for something low key, but you probably want a small refresh. Use a face mist to boost the hydration in your skin before you leave. Even if you’re not going out, a spritz of an aloe-infused water or superfood-based product will keep your skin feeling great until bedtime.

Desk rescue
Ideal for super fast refreshment or hydration, keeping a face mist in your desk drawer means you can not only moisturise at a moment’s notice, but that you can stay cool under pressure at all times.

Post shave
We can’t recommend a face mist highly enough to compliment your post-shave skincare routine. Depending on your concerns or skin complaints, there are numerous products that can help relieve the issues associated with shaving. One of the most effective ways to deliver treatment for razor burn, redness or tightness of the skin is to use a rich moisturising post-shave cream. Take a look at the How Smooth Calming Post Shave Cream here. However, spraying a face mist across your stubble or shaved area can add a refreshing hit of moisture, make your skin more comfortable and complement the after-care shave products you’re currently using.
